Do You Need to Eat 'Boring' to Lose Weight?
We go back a couple of years ago when I worked with a trainer for the first time. After three months, I saw a couple of pounds of gout. Yes! Then, I got stuck. The scale went up again and did not slide down. But even more importantly, I did not notice that my body was firming up. Where was the muscle? Where were the results? Not seeing or feeling the changes was maddening after all the work and the money he was contributing.
I was confused and frustrated, so I asked my coach: "Heeeeeey, why is not it working?" She, word for word, told me: "Look, you need to eat boring to lose weight." You should have seen my face. I love food, so they crushed me and defeated me when he told me that if I wanted to lose weight, I would have to "eat boring." What the hell did that mean? My mind began to wander for days full of the same meals, all day, for the rest of my days. I sat at my desk that same day and imagined some of the most diet-focused boring meals I could think of: steel-cut oatmeal, rice cakes, bananas, grilled chicken, baby carrots, and cottage cheese. Rinse and repeat. I went to a dark place because that was not the reality I was ready to live in.
SEND DOES NOT HAVE TO BE BURST
Then I realized that while the coach told me it was boring, I could actually systematically create home-cooked meals (or order clean meals when I went out to eat) and prepare for success. So a day of eating could be: eggs with a garnish of sautéed vegetables, avocado and mixed berries for breakfast, a fruit as a snack, a BLT salmon with whole grain avocado at lunch (this exact sandwich exists in a nearby pub The headquarters of Under Armor in Baltimore), Greek yogurt for a snack and finally grilled chicken, sauteed vegetables (without rice) and a salad for dinner.
When I thought about it, I realized that we could be living in a golden age of healthy eating. Today there are many tasty and healthy things to eat, more and more nutritious options when eating out (Sweetgreen, Zoe's Kitchen and many others) and even more ways to take them to your door (order food online, food delivery) services, product delivery services). It's even an infiltrated fashion. Under Armor has joined this cultural moment.
